Starting the long-term journey toward healing for terrorist attack survivors.

Supporting Israel's long term recovery from October 7 Attacks

In the aftermath of the October 7 attacks and the ensuing conflict in Gaza, our approach in Israel has been centred on providing immediate relief while laying the foundation for long-term recovery and resilience. 460 local volunteers from both the affected and host communities played a crucial role in operating our ‘SmartAID Israel Response’.

Physical and mental health was a key priority for our teams. 73,450 people received social support, including health services, medicine, trauma counselling and food.

7,750 individuals, including children, families, and the elderly from 25 kibbutzim, NOVA survivors and their families, released abductees and their families, and families of those still abducted, received psychosocial support by 25 different professionals at our “Raanan Safe Space Farm” based 25 minutes north of Tel Aviv.

5,350 families, mainly holocaust survivors, new immigrants and low-income families living in Ashkelon and the south were provided with hot meals daily, directly to their homes.

Non-food items (NFI) such as clothing and hygiene kits are just as essential as food and medical supplies, providing survivors with dignity, comfort, and practical means to cope with crises. 130,000 children, women, and men received essential NFI like clothing, refrigerators, heaters, hygiene kits, and mattresses. These items, totaling 750 tons, were stored in 3 warehouses across Israel and distributed to 6 cities and 47 kibbutzim hosting internally displaced people.

125 farmers who continued to live in 5 kibbutzim on the evacuated Israel-Gaza border used the 5 shelters we refurbished. These shelters were equipped with computers, new kitchens, telecommunication systems, TVs, and other amenities, allowing them to stay safe during the night and continue tending to their livestock and farms during the day.

Education is a lifeline, especially during conflict. Through SmartAID, 1,240 displaced children gained access to online education through 31 of our Smart Classes. These included online psychological therapy and a unique program offering English classes taught by international volunteer teachers.

750 children were provided with recreational and educational activities in 10 of our 2.0 ‘Safe Spaces’, situated in 10 villages along the second line of the border with Gaza.

Children with special needs are among the most vulnerable in crises. To support 1,500 of them across 3 shelters, we provided 430 adapted smart tablets to meet their unique educational and emotional needs.

The breadth and depth of the operation was handled through 2 technological coordination centers we established. These centers effectively coordinated the response of local government officials in Ashkelon and surrounding regions.

SmartAID’s Ra’anan Safe Space became a refuge for those struggling with trauma. Located in the quiet village of Beit Yitzhak, just north of Tel Aviv, it provides mental health support for families, first responders, survivors of the NOVA music festival, and those affected by abductions.

Since its creation, the center has helped hundreds of people navigate unexplainable grief and trauma. More than just a crisis response, it offers a path to long-term healing.
